West Ham step up interest in Celtic striker ahead of summer

Callum Osmand’s debut season at Celtic may have been disrupted by injury, but the young forward has already begun attracting interest from elsewhere, with West Ham United reportedly monitoring his progress ahead of the summer transfer window.

The interest is understood to pre-date Osmand’s move to Glasgow. West Ham are believed to have followed the striker during his time in Fulham’s academy, where he earned a reputation as one of the club’s most promising attacking prospects before joining Celtic last summer.

The report comes at a significant time for the London side. Following relegation from the Premier League, West Ham are preparing for life in the Championship and are expected to place greater emphasis on recruiting younger players with long-term potential as they attempt to rebuild.

Osmand arrived at Celtic with high expectations after impressing throughout the youth ranks at Fulham. However, his first campaign in Scotland was hampered by a hamstring injury that sidelined him for several months just as he appeared to be edging closer to regular first-team involvement.

Despite that setback, the striker still managed to leave a positive impression. One of his standout moments came in Celtic’s League Cup semi-final victory over Rangers, when he came off the bench and found the net.

He returned to action towards the closing stages of the season and continued to make his mark. On the final day of the Premiership campaign against Hearts, Osmand produced an eye-catching cameo, registering a goal and an assist in just 17 minutes after being introduced from the bench.

Those contributions capped an encouraging first season in which he recorded four goals and one assist from only seven senior appearances.

Such numbers underline why there is growing interest in the young forward. While there is currently no suggestion of a formal bid from West Ham, Celtic are unlikely to entertain offers for a player they view as an important prospect for the future.

For now, Osmand remains focused on continuing his development at Parkhead, but interest from England suggests his progress has not gone unnoticed.
