Rangers Decide on £10m Signing After Memorable Ibrox Showcase

Rangers are expected to move into the summer transfer window without making an attempt to bring Nasser Djiga back to Ibrox on a permanent basis.

The Burkina Faso international arrived from Wolves last summer on a season-long loan deal, with no option included for Rangers to purchase the defender at the end of his stay. While Djiga initially found life difficult in Glasgow, his performances improved considerably after Danny Rohl’s arrival, mirroring the progress shown by several members of the squad during the second half of the campaign.

However, as Rangers’ form began to fluctuate once again following the Premiership split, Djiga was part of a defensive unit that struggled badly at crucial moments. The inconsistency that plagued the side throughout the season ultimately ended any realistic hopes of mounting a sustained challenge to Celtic, who comfortably retained the league title.

With preparations already underway for a major squad overhaul, Andrew Cavenagh has made it clear that this will be a “summer of change” at Ibrox. One of the first significant decisions appears to involve Djiga, with reports suggesting Rangers have informed Wolves they will not pursue a permanent transfer.

Even if circumstances were to change, a return now looks increasingly unlikely.

Djiga’s future may also be influenced by developments at Molineux. Wolves, now preparing for life in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League, are expected to lose defender Yerson Mosquera this summer after his representatives reportedly reached an agreement with the club regarding an exit.

That departure could open the door for Djiga to become part of Rob Edwards’ plans next season. Rangers, meanwhile, may have decided that any fee required to secure his services would not represent value as they reshape the squad.

Attention is already turning towards alternative defensive options. Emmanuel Fernandez is a player Rangers are keen to keep after an impressive debut campaign, while John Souttar remains one of the few experienced centre-backs available heading into pre-season.

Dundee defender Luke Graham has also emerged as a serious target, although reports suggest the highly-rated youngster would only consider a move if regular first-team football is on offer.
