Micky Moore reveals transfer stance as next move sparks debate

The future of Mikey Moore has become one of the most talked-about subjects of the summer after the Tottenham youngster confirmed his intention to return to north London rather than pursue another spell at Rangers.

The decision has come as a major surprise to many at Ibrox, where the teenager enjoyed a hugely successful loan campaign and quickly became one of the club’s most popular players. Supporters had hoped Rangers would either secure him for another season or somehow negotiate a permanent transfer. Instead, Moore has opted to focus on breaking into Tottenham’s first team, a move that has divided opinion among supporters of both clubs.

Moore arrived at Rangers in August 2025 seeking regular senior football after finding opportunities limited at Tottenham. Widely regarded as one of the brightest products of the Spurs academy, he had already made history as the club’s youngest Premier League debutant and shown flashes of his potential in European competition.

His season in Scotland exceeded expectations. Working under Danny Rohl, Moore made 47 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. His pace, direct running and willingness to take on defenders quickly made him a favourite among Rangers supporters, while several important performances in high-profile fixtures enhanced his reputation further.

His achievements were all the more impressive given the health problems he had overcome earlier in his career. Having battled myocarditis following a virus, Moore returned stronger and more determined, earning widespread respect throughout the game.

Rangers were keen to keep him. Rohl repeatedly expressed his admiration for the winger and made it clear the club would do everything possible to retain him.

“We have to be patient with Mikey but also on the front foot,” Rohl said. “We’re clear and we will try everything.”

As the campaign drew to a close, many expected Moore to extend his stay in Glasgow. Reports suggested he had thoroughly enjoyed what he previously described as an “unbelievable” experience and would consider another loan.

Instead, the youngster has chosen to return to Tottenham and attempt to establish himself under Roberto De Zerbi. Speaking about his future, Moore left little room for doubt.

“I’m a Spurs player,” he emphasized.

The reaction was immediate. Rangers supporters voiced their disappointment online, with some struggling to accept the decision after investing heavily in the player throughout the season.

Tottenham supporters, however, welcomed the news. Many believe the club would have been making a mistake by allowing one of their most promising academy graduates to leave permanently.

From Moore’s perspective, the decision is understandable. At 18, he faces a crucial stage in his development. Another year at Rangers would almost certainly guarantee regular football, but returning to Tottenham offers the opportunity to work daily under a manager renowned for improving young attacking players.

De Zerbi’s arrival has given several academy prospects renewed hope, and Moore appears determined to prove he belongs at the highest level. He remains under a long-term contract and is viewed as an important part of Tottenham’s future plans.

“For me now, it’s hard because it’s the same as last year,” he noted regarding the new manager dynamic. “I’ll go back there and see what the new people say… and from there I’ll make a decision.”

There are risks attached to the move. Young players can find opportunities difficult to come by at elite clubs, and another loan cannot be ruled out if first-team football proves limited. Nevertheless, Moore has made his choice.

For Rangers, attention will now turn elsewhere as they seek alternatives in the transfer market. For Tottenham, there is excitement about what one of their brightest young talents might achieve.
