Premier League officials have confirmed the appointment of referee Farai Hallam ahead of Everton’s return to action against Brentford this weekend, as the campaign resumes following the international break.
The Toffees head into Saturday’s fixture in West London after a 21-day pause, a period David Moyes and his staff will have used to regroup and refine their approach during the closing stretch of the season. With European qualification still within reach, the visit to Brentford carries added weight.
Preparations have stepped up in recent days, with Moyes expected to lean on both experience and physicality as Everton look to maintain momentum. The manager has previously made his feelings clear when it comes to officiating, urging referees to allow the game to flow and not shy away from robust challenges — an approach that tends to favour his side.
Attention, however, turns to Hallam, who continues to find his feet at the highest level. Saturday’s match will mark another significant assignment for the official, who has yet to take charge of an Everton fixture. His top-flight experience remains limited, with just two Premier League matches under his belt since making his debut earlier this year.
Those outings came in January and February, overseeing victories for Burnley and Manchester City respectively. Prior to that, much of his work has come in the Championship, where he has built a steady reputation across a larger sample of matches.
Statistically, Hallam has shown a willingness to keep his cards in his pocket when possible. Across 26 games this season, he has produced 87 yellow cards but is yet to issue a red — a record that may hint at a contest allowed to breathe.
He will be assisted on the day by Simon Bennett and Steve Meredith, while Andy Madley takes on fourth official duties. Michael Salisbury will oversee VAR, supported by Adrian Holmes.
