Leeds Brace for Aston Villa’s £30m Bid for Ampadu

Leeds United are bracing themselves for what could become one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer, with Aston Villa reportedly weighing up a £30 million move for club captain Ethan Ampadu.

The Wales international enjoyed a superb 2025-26 campaign at Elland Road and played a pivotal role in helping Daniel Farke’s side secure their Premier League status. His performances throughout the season not only underlined his quality on the pitch but also highlighted the leadership qualities that have made him such an important figure within the dressing room.

Ampadu featured in 35 Premier League matches and was widely regarded as one of Leeds’ most consistent performers. His influence was recognised at the end of the season when he collected both the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

It is understood that Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is a keen admirer of the midfielder and views him as a player capable of adding further strength and depth to his squad. Ampadu’s intelligence, versatility and tireless work ethic fit the profile of player Emery has often favoured during his managerial career.

Former England striker Stan Collymore has also spoken positively about Villa’s reported interest, believing Ampadu possesses the qualities required to thrive at a club competing at the higher end of the Premier League table.

Despite the growing speculation, Leeds remain calm over the situation. Ampadu is contracted until 2027 and discussions over an improved long-term deal are believed to be progressing behind the scenes.

There is also confidence within the club that the midfielder remains fully committed to Leeds following their successful return to the top flight.

Leeds know replacing a player of Ampadu’s calibre would be far from straightforward. While the £30 million fee being discussed would represent a sizeable return on the £7 million paid to Chelsea in 2023, his value extends beyond numbers on a balance sheet.
