Mockery at Villa Park as hosts taunt United and make it ten in a row

Aston Villa could not resist a playful dig after extending their winning run to 10 matches with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Villa Park, poking fun at viral United supporter ‘The United Strand’ in the process.

United’s inconsistent Premier League campaign continued under Ruben Amorim, whose side again showed flashes of quality without finding the consistency required to sustain momentum. After a difficult start to the season that included early league defeats and a shock Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier Grimsby Town, October briefly offered encouragement. Wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton hinted at progress, only for that run to stall before the November international break. Since then, United have managed just two victories in six matches.

The visitors did show resilience on Sunday. Morgan Rogers put Villa ahead before Matheus Cunha levelled just three minutes later, restoring parity and briefly shifting the momentum. However, shortly after the interval, Rogers struck again, his second proving decisive as Unai Emery’s side maintained their relentless form.

That victory moved Villa to within three points of leaders Arsenal and just one behind second-placed Manchester City, underlining their credentials as genuine contenders. The club celebrated the milestone on social media, posting “10 WINS IN A ROWWWWWWWWWW”, before following up with a pointed aside: “That united fan could’ve had two haircuts.”

The comment was aimed at Frank Ilett, better known online as ‘The United Strand’, who vowed in October 2024 not to cut his hair until United win five consecutive matches. That landmark remains elusive, leaving the supporter’s now-notable afro firmly intact after another false dawn.

Former United winger Nani even weighed in, suggesting David Beckham should be the man to finally end the wait. “If that means that Man Utd is winning, I want him to cut his hair… I think David Beckham should do it, he’s had plenty of practice. He’d be perfect!”

United’s frustrations were compounded by an injury scare to captain Bruno Fernandes, who was withdrawn at half-time. Amorim admitted afterwards: “I think it’s soft tissue so it’s going to be a while… We were really unlucky today.”
