Josh Brownhill Heads to Saudi Arabia After Eyeing a Move to Leeds
Last season’s standout Burnley midfielder, Josh Brownhill, who scored 18 goals and provided six assists, has reportedly agreed to a deal with Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.
Earlier in the summer, FourFourTwo’s Joe Donnohue reported that Brownhill, a free agent, was determined to avoid a return to the Championship and had even made it known that he admired Daniel Farke’s setup at Elland Road. With Leeds in the market for a No. 10, Brownhill seemed like a potential target.
Despite Leeds’ need for attacking reinforcements, they are now set to miss out on the 29-year-old as he’s agreed to a deal in the Middle East. The move is subject to “approval from the Financial Sustainability Committee affiliated with the Saudi Professional League.”
It’s likely that Brownhill’s wage demands were too high for any English clubs to take a chance on him. His move to Saudi Arabia, where clubs are known for offering enormous salaries, suggests that finances were the key reason why he remained a free agent for so long.
