Supporters question Everton’s contract strategy amid multiple exit concerns

Everton are bracing themselves for what could prove to be a defining summer, with four senior players reportedly turning down the opportunity to extend their stays at Everton.

Vitalii Mykolenko, Michael Keane, Idrissa Gueye and club captain Seamus Coleman are all due to see their contracts expire at the end of the season. According to reports, each member of the quartet has opted against signing fresh terms, leaving the club at risk of losing them for nothing in a matter of months.

Such an outcome would represent a significant juncture, not least because of Coleman’s standing. The defender has been a fixture on Merseyside for well over a decade and remains one of the dressing room’s most influential voices. Gueye and Keane, too, have provided experience through turbulent periods, while Mykolenko has been a consistent presence at left-back during the current campaign.

There is further uncertainty surrounding the squad. Loan pair Jack Grealish and Tyrique George are expected to return to their parent clubs when their temporary deals conclude, a development that would thin the ranks even further heading into pre-season preparations.

Supporters have responded with a mixture of frustration and resignation. Many argue the club should have acted sooner to refresh an ageing core, suggesting that Gueye, Keane and Coleman ought to have been succeeded as part of a longer-term rebuild. Others have questioned the wider handling of contracts, pointing to the risk of allowing several experienced players to approach the end of their deals simultaneously.

With the prospect of multiple departures looming, attention now turns to the summer window. Recruitment will be critical if Everton are to avoid slipping backwards and instead use this moment as the foundation for a new cycle.
