Everton £25m target informs club of January move plans

Everton’s search for a reliable goalscorer has led them firmly in the direction of Youssef En-Nesyri, with the Fenerbahce forward emerging as the club’s leading target during the January window.

The Toffees have been weighing up their options for several weeks as concerns over their cutting edge continue to linger. En-Nesyri’s profile, pedigree and availability have made him an attractive proposition, although there remains some uncertainty over how far discussions have progressed. The Athletic reports that “Everton’s interest in En-Nesyri is not at an advanced stage and they are yet to make a formal bid for the forward”, suggesting patience rather than urgency from the Merseyside club.

That view, however, contrasts with claims from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who indicates that Everton have already made their move. “Everton send official bid to Fenerbahçe for Youssef En-Nesyri on initial loan with €20m buy option. Negotiations underway,” he posted on X, adding fresh intrigue to a deal that appears to be gathering momentum behind the scenes.

At 28, En-Nesyri brings experience at both club and international level. He spent four productive seasons with Sevilla, scoring 73 goals in 196 appearances and playing a key role in two Europa League triumphs. Since joining Fenerbahce in 2024, the Moroccan has continued that form, netting 38 times for the Turkish side, including seven goals in 15 Super Lig outings this campaign.

Currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, En-Nesyri remains a central figure for Morocco. He has earned 91 caps, scoring 25 goals, and etched his name into World Cup folklore in 2022 when his header against Portugal carried Morocco into the semi-finals — a historic achievement for an African and Arab nation.

Everton’s need for firepower is clear. Goals have been in short supply, with Thierno Barry and Beto managing just three apiece in the league. Barry, signed from Villarreal for an initial £27.7m, has shown flashes of promise, while Beto has struggled for consistent minutes. Against that backdrop, En-Nesyri represents both a statement of intent and a potential solution.
