Premier League supporters stunned by Lampard’s strange take on Miovski’s first Rangers hat-trick

Rangers booked their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup with the minimum of fuss as they swept aside fourth-tier Annan Athletic 5-0 at Ibrox, continuing a run that is beginning to gather real momentum.

Bojan Miovski was the headline act, helping himself to a first career hat-trick in Rangers colours as Danny Röhl’s heavily-rotated side made light work of the visitors. With nine changes from the weekend, the outcome was never in doubt, and the comfortable win extended Rangers’ sequence to six straight victories in all competitions.

Attention before kick-off had centred on transfer business, with the Ibrox crowd introduced to January arrivals Andreas Skov Olsen, Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens. Skov Olsen, a Denmark international, has arrived on loan from Wolfsburg until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Once the football started, Miovski wasted little time. After 12 minutes he shifted the ball onto his left foot on the edge of the area and drilled a fierce effort past Charlie Albinson. The North Macedonia international struck again 20 minutes later, rising to nod home Findlay Curtis’ delicate cross from close range.

Curtis, an academy graduate who has been linked with a loan move this month, was lively throughout and his display may complicate any potential switch, with the youngster now cup-tied domestically.

Rangers tightened their grip early in the second half when Kieran Dowell, making his first appearance since August, looped a header in from Joe Rothwell’s cross. Miovski completed his treble from the penalty spot in the 75th minute before substitute Thelo Aasgaard added a flourish late on with a superb 30-yard free-kick.

Chukwuani was handed his debut off the bench, as was 17-year-old Zebedee Lawson.

Afterwards, Röhl spoke of ambition. “I think in general we can play for two titles at the moment, I think that’s what we want,” he said. “In the cup you need fewer wins to be in the final, I think it’s a great opportunity, we want to push.”
