Everton eye ‘Grealish 2.0’ hailed as England’s most exciting talent

Despite the frustration of a recent red card, Jack Grealish’s loan spell at Everton has largely been a success and has quickly justified the club’s summer gamble.

The winger arrived from Manchester City on a season-long loan, with Everton retaining the option to make the move permanent once the campaign concludes. In the six months since, Grealish has become a central figure under David Moyes, contributing goals, assists and a sense of belief that has resonated with the Goodison Park crowd.

Operating mainly from the left, he has registered eight goals and assists in all competitions, while his creative influence has been clear. His performance at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, where he set up the opening two goals, offered a reminder of the quality he brings when given freedom and responsibility.

That impact has not gone unnoticed inside the club, and Everton are now considering whether they can replicate that success in the transfer market this winter.

Everton targeting Premier League sensation

Whether by design or coincidence, Everton appear increasingly willing to explore opportunities involving players from the so-called Big Six. Arsenal defender Ben White has been linked in recent days, but he is not the only name under consideration.

Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube Channel, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed Everton “have taken a look” at Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri. Any move would likely be a loan until the end of the season, potentially requiring Everton to shoulder part of the 18-year-old’s reported £80,000-a-week wages.

Competition will be fierce. Fulham are interested, while Sunderland are also monitoring the situation.

Why Nwaneri could follow Grealish’s path

Despite his age, Nwaneri already boasts significant experience, having made his Arsenal debut during the 2022/23 season. Back then, Granit Xhaka described him as a “very special” talent, and his development has largely lived up to that billing.

Comfortable as a number ten or on the right, the London-born attacker has made 51 appearances for the Gunners, scoring ten goals and providing two assists. Eleven of those contributions came last season.

This campaign has been tougher. The arrival of Eberechi Eze has limited his opportunities, restricting him to 515 minutes across 12 outings, with his only goal coming against Brighton in the Carabao Cup.

A loan move to Everton could offer the platform he currently lacks. Last season’s numbers tell their own story, with Nwaneri averaging 1.7 chances created and 3.8 successful take-ons per 90 minutes. It is little wonder TNT Sports pundit Joe Cole hailed him as the “most exciting footballer in England”.
